This year, the State of Missouri, is celebrating its Bicentennial. But the history of the settlement of St. Charles goes back in history even further, to the late 1760’s. In 1821 St Charles became the first state capital. As part of the rally activities, we will be touring the restored original state capital, the First Missouri State Capitol State Historic Site.
Before statehood, the Lewis and Clark Expedition camped on the banks of the Missouri River here in 1804. We will visit the Lewis and Clark Boat House and Museum which has a display of replicas of the keel-boats used by the Corps of Discovery. Olde Town St. Charles has many unique shops, restaurants, art center, and is the eastern terminus of the Katy biking and hiking trail.
A day trip is planned to the Daniel Boone Home and the Weldon Spring Site, where ex- plosives and uranium-ore was processed during World War II and the Cold War. We will be stopping at the Montelle Winery for wine tasting, lunch and a breathtaking view of the Missouri River Valley.
We will be camping at the 370 Lakeside Park RV Campground, 1000 Lakeside Park Drive in St. Peters, a short 15 minutes drive from to Olde Town St. Charles, which offers many amenities above and beyond the expected. Reservations and payment ($37.80 group rate/night) are to be made by individual rally participants to the campground no later than August 26 (one month prior to rally). Their phone number is 636-387-5253 . Tell them you are with the Roadtrek Group.
More details, and rally fee will be available later.
