WiFi is short for Wireless Fidelity, the wireless network system quite commonly used to connect a laptop computer to the Internet, wirelessly by microwave. There are an estimated 700,000 WiFi 'Hot Spots' or connection points scattered across the US. Some are provided free of charge by coffee shops, libraries, schools, public offices, hotels, airports, truck stops, RV parks, private individuals, etc. Most of the city of Austin, Texas downtown and University areas are covered by a free WiFi network. The Mall in Washington, DC and the FCC building have free WiFi. Others are commercial sites that charge by the hour, day or month to use their connections.
