HURONIA” RALLY Sept 2-5, 2010
Harish and Caryl Verma
This rally will be held in Waubaushene on the south shore of picturesque Georgian Bay, Ontario, Canada, starting on Thursday, Sept 2nd. You will discover colourful history of Aboriginal, French and British cultures and enjoy spectacular scenery. We will assemble at the scenic Bell Falls Campground (www.bellfalls.com). Most of the sites have full hookups. A few RT’s may need to dry camp.
On
Friday we will visit the historical Canadian Martyr’s Shrine (http://www.martyrs-shrine.com/),
which honours the memory of the martyred Jesuit Missionaries who,
between 1625 and 1650, preached among the Huron-Wendat people. In the
afternoon we will visit the neighbouring Sainte-Marie among the
Hurons, an authentic reconstruction of a Huronian community founded
in 1639.

Guided visit by Kayak or Canoe to nearby Wetland Wye Marsh is optional.
Saturday morning and afternoon is free for you to take in one or more of the several other attractions in the area (Museums, Murals, Discovery Harbour, Casino Rama, Wasaga Beach etc.) In the evening we will board the MS Georgian Queen (a former Canadian Navy Vessel) for a 3 1/2 hour dinner cruise among the breathtakingly beautiful 30,000 islands of Georgian Bay, The sunset dinner cruise will feature live entertainment and full BBQ Steak or Chicken dinner.
The rally will end on Sunday September 5th, giving you plenty of time to head on to our equally exciting Quebec City Rally starting September 9th. On the way you may stay in an Ontario Provincial Park such as the world-famous Algonquin Provincial Park and/or visit Ottawa, the nation’s Capital.

QUEBEC………..IT’S UNIQUE!
September 9th to the 12th 2010
The City of Quebec founded in 1608 has been designated as a World Heritage Treasure.
It is the cradle of French civilization in North America.Absorb the history, the architecture, the old world charm and of course the magnificent food!!!
We shall be staying at the Camping Turmel in the town of Chateau Richer located in an area known as the Cote de la Beaupre, which is one of the oldest throughfares in North America. The road is edged by some buildings which are 3 centuries old. This particular town is situated on the North Shore of the St.Lawrence River 15kms east of the Pont(bridge) Pierre Laporte leading into Quebec City. The Campsite has full water and electrical hookups.
The meals (3 breakfasts and 2 suppers) will be supplied by a local French Canadian caterer and for those who have not experienced this type of cooking they will definitely be in for a treat.
Our Rally will start with a guided bus tour of Quebec City (8:30 am to 5:30pm) where we will be visiting many interesting sites and museums in various locales. The following are probably some of the best, considering the time frame.
-The Plains of Abraham where the British General Wolf defeated the French General Montcalm and seized the City in 1759
-The Parliament buildings of the Capital of the Province of Quebec.
-Place Royale located in the heart of the Historic Lower Town area.
-There will be approximately a 2 hour
free period in this area to explore, dine in cafes, bistros, creperies
and of course to shop.
-Les Chutes Montmorency(falls). Spectacular awe-inspiring natural wonder whose falls are actually higher than Niagara Falls. When a portion of the falls freezes over in the winter, they are used to practice ice-climbing.
There are a few recommended sites in
close proximity to the campground which campers can visit on their own.
For example;
-Moulin du Petit Pre, located 5 minutes from the campground, was built in 1695 and is the oldest commercial flour mill in North America. Besides a tour with a guide in period clothing, there is a shop to purchase local organic products as well as a delicious strawberry liquer. There is a small winery as well as a restaurant on the premises which overlooks the St.Lawrence River.
-Ile D’Orleans is an island in the St. Lawrence River, which is accessed by a bridge again located only 5 minutes from the campground. This absolutely charming area combines rustic beauty with both the agri-business and art/handicraft industries.
The Rally is restricted to 56
Roadtrekkers, the capacity of the Tour Bus.

The Region 3 Chapter Rally was held at Fergus Ontario in 2009

Some folks parked in the open in order to get a breeze. Others sought out the shade.
Gudrun Heiss sent me some pictures of a musical group playing in the early evening at the Chapter Rally at Fergus. Doug Wicken is on the flute, Dick Ziegert is playing his accordion, I believe that it is our Rally master, John MacInnis, on the guitar, unfortunately the others I cannot put names to.
